College Basketball 2021-22 National Championship Betting Odds Update

Advertissement

This year more than ever, the door is wide open for anyone to win the National Championship. Just when you think we have a runner up front, they are picked by the underdog. After last night, there are no more undefeated teams in the NCAA. As night fell, Baylor and USC were both left standing as last. Both lost in their matches.

We’re past the New Year and conference season is in full swing. Before we know it, we’ll be headed to the Conference Championship tournaments and ready to pick on Sunday. Let’s take a look at the current title odds this season so you can continue planning your bets against the NCAA National Basketball Championship odds.

NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Update Odds

favorite to win

The current national title contender goes to the Gonzaga Bulldogs. You can bet Gonzaga has a +600 chance of winning the National Championship this year. Gonzaga was the favorite to start the season and still has the best odds of winning. Gonzaga came out second to Baylor last season.

After last season, Bulldogs lost star Jalen Suggs but were lucky to keep Drew Tim. In the off-season, coach Mark Few Chet Holmgren added the number one player in the 2021 class. This was a huge plus as Holmgren averaged 13.4 points per game and 8.4 rebounds.

Drew Tim leads the Bulldogs with 16.8 points per game. Timmy will be in contention for the Player of the Year award at the end of the season. In total, Bulldogs have four players who average double points.

Gonzaga has played a tough schedule outside of conferences this season that will prepare them for the month of March. The Bulldogs are likely to win their conference again and retain the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Championship. The biggest win of the season was the Final Four rematch against UCLA last season. The Zags won the match 83-63.

Smart bet to win

A smart bet to win is the current No. 1 team in the country, the national title holder, the Baylor Bears. Until last night, Baylor was unbeaten and they are one of the most consistent teams in the NCAA. So far this season, the Bears have had big wins over Michigan State, Villanova and Iowa State.

Even with Texas Tech losing last night, Baylor is still the smart choice. The last time there was a back-to-back NCAA champion was in 2006 and 2007 when Florida won both tournaments. Baylor will have a tough conference slate to finish the season with two fights against Kansas and one with Texas Tech again.

Baylor currently has a +1100 odds of winning the National Championship.

long shot to win

Let’s be honest, any team this season has a long shot at winning. Such is the beauty of the NCAA Championship that none of the 64 teams have the same shot to win the National Championship. When you’re realistic, there are quite a few teams that come to mind as to who has the long shot, but the one we’re going with is one that checks all the boxes. The Illinois Fighting Illini is the long way to winning the title.

Illinois had a lot of questions to answer after Ayo Dosunmo’s loss to the NBA. Illinois after a struggle to start the season had heeded the call. Illinois moved to 12-3 last night and 5-0 in the Big Ten Conference. Illinois Kofi Cockburn leads the big little guy. Cockburn is the number one runner for the Player of the Year award, averaging 22 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game.

Illinois has a youthful vibe as freshman Luke Judd, Brandon Podzemsky and RJ Melendez see the floor at one point or another. They have experience with players like Trent Frazier, Da’Monte Williams and Jacob Grandison. They also have star players in Alfonso Plummer, Cockburn and Frasier. They have a role with Coleman Hawkins and Omar Payne.

Illinois had the best start to team play since the 2004-05 team, winning 10 of their last 11 games. Illinois has the toughest schedule 17 this season. The Illini does it all without Andre Corbelo, the number two guard who caught the eye of so many last season in Illinois, where he competed in the Big Ten Championship and is the number one seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Illinois has 2500+ odds of winning the National Championship this year.
